10 Non-Alcoholic Drinks to Enjoy during Dry January

The Swear Jar

1. The Swear Jar

This is the perfect quencher that contains two of our favorite Runamok mixers: Maple Grenadine and Maple Tonic. You can use either regular Maple Tonic or Sparkle Tonic if you are feeling like stepping it up a notch. Amounts are to taste; adjust as you like. We gave it this name because one taste and you will say, “$*@%, that’s good.”

Garden Hibiscus Cocktail

2. Garden Hibiscus Maple Cocktail

This recipes comes courtesy of home mixologist and Runamok community member Robin Karides, a.k.a. @TheHouseMouse, made with Runamok Floral Maple Bitters*, Hibiscus Maple Syrup, Ginger Beer, and non-alcoholic Seedlip Garden ‘Gin.’ Sip and smell the flowers.

Chai Spiced Hot Cocoa

3. Chai Spiced Hot Cocoa

Chai (aka masala chai) is that milky, sweet, mildly spicy tea you can find in Indian and South Asian restaurants. The spice mixture varies as much as any curry blend, but the one spice that is dominant and ever-present is cardamom. The other spices include cinnamon, clove, fennel, black pepper, and ginger. We’ve combined these warming spices of our infused maples along with hot coca for an ultra cozy, cold-weather beverage. For a similar flavor without the chocolate, check out our Cheater’s Chai.

The Virgin Rob

4. The Virgin Rob

An excellent non-alcoholic cocktail which includes unsweetened cranberry juice, grapefruit, and maple syrup topped with a bit of seltzer. It’s tart and refreshing, but not puckery, and most certainly not a kiddie drink.

Honey Mango Lasso

5. Honey Mango Lassi

Creamy, fruity, and sweet, the lassi is a yogurt-based drink from India meant to cool you off on a hot day. This one includes mango and your choice of Runamok Honey. Traditional lassis often include spices and we recommend you bring out your adventurous palate and try out a few spices such as ground cardamom or nutmeg to give this a kick. Or you can keep it simple and enjoy as is.

Kafka's Mocktail

6. Kafka’s Mocktail

Grape juice has been tagged a kiddie drink but this mocktail may change your perspective. Fresh grapes – the most intense, dark ones you can find – are muddled with Elderberry Infused Maple and lime juice. The resulting taste is the opposite of a frivolous summer drink –this is a drink for sitting back and watching the season change. For contemplating the passing of time. What does it all mean!?

Spiritless x Runamok Old Fashioned

7. Spiritless x Runamok Old Fashioned

A non-alcoholic collaboration with our friends at Spiritless, this is a classic old fashioned with a modern twist combining Spiritless Kentucky 74 with our Smoked Maple Old Fashioned Cocktail Mixer.

Blackberry Honey Lemonade

8. Blackberry Honey Lemonade

This is a summer refresher that takes advantage of fresh berries. If you don’t have access to blackberries, strawberries, raspberries or blueberries would be a good substitute. That the lemon juice really accentuates the flavor for an intense honey flavor.

Warm your Cockles

9. Warm Your Cockles

A non-alcoholic hot cider drink, perfect for a crisp fall afternoon. The ginger in the Maple Mule mixer give it just a hint of spice and the maple syrup enriches the sweetness of the apples.

Grapefruit Shandy

10. Grapefruit Shandy

This is a refreshing, non-alcoholic drink that actually tastes like it could be a cocktail.  The ginger beer gives it some zing and the Floral Maple Bitters* bring out the best of the grapefruit.

*Please note: Our maple bitters, like most traditional bitters, are extracted in a base of alcohol. With such small quantities used per drink (and with bitters being classified alongside vanilla extract and other tinctures rather than alcoholic beverages), we often include them in non-alcoholic beverages for the deep complexity they bring to a drink. If you are abstaining from alcohol entirely, or have allergy concerns, please adjust accordingly or opt for one of our bitter-less options!
