This is a most excellent cocktail by Laura Mack, bar manager at Mary’s Restaurant, the Inn at Baldwin Creek. We will let her explain her mixology technology.
“I knew I wanted to have a balanced cocktail; all while showcasing maple in it’s truest form. I strive to make all my cocktails balanced so all taste buds will enjoying the sip-ablity. Using rye whiskey as the backbone I was looking to play off the spice notes by using cognac to give some soft nutty notes, all while balancing the sweet rich flavor of maple syrup with the cinnamon & nutmeg from the all spice drams.”
Since everyone in Vermont wears multiple hats, she is also the owner of Lu.lu Ice Cream in Vergennes, winner of best ice cream in VT which is saying a lot given the state is known for a different multinational ice cream producer which may rhyme with Hen and Larry’s.
- ¾ oz rye whiskey
- ¾ oz cognac
- ½ oz Runamok Maple Syrup
- ½ oz lemon juice
- ¼ oz allspice dram
- 2 dashes Angostura bitters
Add all ingredients to a shaker glass. Shake vigorously. Strain into a rocks glass with fresh ice. Garnish with orange twist.
