There’s something about seltzer, a certain je ne sais quoi, that makes it so much more enjoyable than plain tap water. Even the question “still or sparkling?” has an air of luxury to it, a real treat in liquid form. We recently got a home seltzer maker to cut down on our stream of recyclables and since then we have been all bubbles, all the time.
If you’re the type of person who struggles to hydrate and sets alarms throughout the day to remind yourself to drink water, I’ve found that adding a few dashes of bitters, or a splash of maple sweetness with a twist of citrus to my seltzer is just enough flavor to keep me coming back all day long (try a combo of all three for a truer soda alternative with less junk).
My favorite combination is our Strawberry Rose Infused Maple Syrup with Floral Maple Bitters and a slice of fresh lime. Orange Maple Bitters, Hibiscus, Makrut Lime-leaf, Ginger, and Wildflower Honey Maple Syrup are all excellent alternatives for a hint of sweet flavor. Served plain over ice or with a handful of chopped fruit (fresh, or frozen in place of ice cubes!).
