Maple-Onion BBQ Sauce

This is a very simple, yet delicious barbecue sauce that can be used on pork, chicken, or anyplace you want a tangy glaze. If you use Runamok’s Pecan Wood Smoked, you will get rich maple flavor with a hint of smoke. If you choose Merquén Infused, it will add smoke, sweetness plus some spice to the sauce.  If you just want classic maple, use our Sugarmaker’s Cut Pure maple syrup.

1 Tbsp vegetable oil

1 onion, diced

1 cup ketchup

¼ cup Runamok Pecan Wood Smoked, Merquén Infused Maple Syrup or Sugarmaker’s Cut Pure Maple

2 Tbsp apple cider vinegar

1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce

In a medium sized pot, add the oil and heat.  Add the onion and sauté for five minutes or until just beginning to brown.  Add the remaining ingredients and stir to combine.  Bring to a simmer and cook for about ten minutes or until thickened. Makes about 1 cup.
