Holidays are coming up and it is time to step up the culinary game. That doesn’t mean getting more complicated – finding the perfect trench coat to cover your kid for her headless zombie costume is already cluttering up the to-do list. I’m talking about going into the holiday season with something original and delectable that will see you from pumpkins to plum pudding.

This is an easy appetizer that is definitely original; baked feta cheese smothered in Barrel-aged Maple Syrup. We have already determined that the Bourbon Barrel-aged Maple is ideal to pair with almost any cheese. Whistlepig Rye Whiskey Barrel-aged would also be excellent or go in a fruity direction and try Blueberry Lemon Infused Maple.

Baked Feta With Bourbon Barrel-Aged Maple Syrup

Ingredients

1 8 oz block of feta

1 Tbsp vegetable oil

1/3 cup Bourbon Barrel-Aged Maple, WhistlePig Whiskey Barrel-aged, or Blueberry Lemon Infused Maple

crackers or pita bread

Instructions

  1. To make, choose a nice, salty, sharp feta (whole, not crumbled) with lots of oomph. Lightly oil a small baking dish and place the whole piece into the dish, in one layer.
  2. Preheat oven to 375.
  3. Drizzle a healthy pour of maple syrup over the feta so there is a small puddle around it.
  4. Put in the oven for about ten minutes or until it just starts to brown on top.
  5. Remove from the oven and serve hot with crackers, sliced baguette, or pita.
