The Oakledge is a whiskey based cocktail by Justin Landau, the bartender at Citizen Cider. When explaining how he formulated the drink, he writes, “We wanted to marry maple, whiskey, and our maple cider (which uses Runamok maple)  in a balanced and layered cocktail.”

  • 1 oz rye whiskey
  • ½ oz lemon juice
  • ½ oz Grand Marnier
  • ½ oz Runamok Cardamom Infused Maple Syrup
  • 3 dashes Runamok Orange Bitters
  • Citizen Cider Tree Tapper or other hard cider, to top

Combine all ingredients except Citizen Cider Tree Tapper into a shaker with ice. Shake until shaker is frosted, then double strain over a large square ice cube in an old fashioned glass. Top with Citizen Cider Tree Tapper and garnish with a smoked maple orange.

Smoked Maple Orange

Slice an orange into slices about an eighth of an inch thick. Then brush them with Runamok cardamom maple syrup. For wood chips, use oak chips soaked in Citizen Cider Tree Tapper. Once the smoker is up to temp at the lowest setting, smoke until slightly charred, but not burnt. Afterwards, dehydrate the slices until void of almost all moisture.
