The South Side combines all the best flavors of summer to make the perfect cocktail quencher. Mint, lemon, and gin give it zing. Substituting maple syrup for simple syrup not only makes it better tasting but also easier (you don’t have to turn on the stove to dissolve the sugar.) Perhaps we should call this version the North Side.

Ingredients

  • 5 mint leaves

  • 1 ounce lemon juice, freshly squeezed

  • 2 ounces gin

  • 1 ounce Sugarmaker’s Cut pure maple syrup 

  • Garnish: mint sprig

Instructions

  • 1 Put the mint leaves and lemon juice into a shaker and gently muddle.
  • 2 Add the gin and maple syrup with ice, and shake until well-chilled.
  • 3 Strain into a cocktail glass with crushed ice.
  • 4 Garnish with a mint sprig.
